Oproep voor deelname aan de lees- en studiegroep Mad Studies.
Activiteiten: Het lezen en bespreken van artikelen en (delen van) boeken op het gebied van Mad Studies. De hoeveelheid tekst is in overleg. (50 tot 150 pagina's) Aantal deelnemers: minimaal 5 maximaal 10. Achtergrond deelnemers: minimaal 50% van de deelnemers heeft ervaring als cliënt in de psychiatrie en is academisch geschoold. De artikelen zijn van academisch niveau. De leesgroep staat ook open voor gemotiveerde mensen zonder academische opleiding. Waar: Waarschijnlijk MoleMann Tielens / De Brouwerij, Hoogte Kadijk 61 hs, Amsterdam. MoleMann Tielens is een kleinschalig psychiatrisch centrum: behandelplek, huiskamer en werkruimte ineen. Wat is Mad Studies. Mad Studies is de kennisproductie op wetenschappelijk niveau van de inzichten en ervaringen van de C/S/X movement (consumer/survivor/ex-patient movement). "Mad Studies (...) incorporates all that is critical of psychiatry from a radical socially progressive foundation in which the medical model is dispensed with as biologically reductionist whilst alternative forms of helping people experiencing mental anguish are based on humanitarian, holistic perspectives where people are not reduced to symptoms but understood within the social and economic context of the society in which they live. (...) [W]e are not locating “Mad Studies” as originating solely within the community of people deemed Mad, but also as including allies, social critics, revolutionary theorists, and radical professionals who have sought to distance themselves from the essentializing biological determinism of psychiatry whilst respecting, valuing, and privileging the Mad thoughts of those whom conventional psychiatry would condemn to a jumble of diagnostic prognostications based on subjective opinions masquerading as science. Mad Studies maakt onderdeel uit van Disability Studies en put ook uit de kennis van labour studies, women’s studies/gender studies, LGBTQ studies, equity studies, sexuality studies, black studies, disability studies, deaf studies, queer studies, black queer studies, dementia studies, fat studies, religious studies, postcolonial studies, transnational studies, diaspora studies, and communication studies.
