Where once a surgeon tore my skin and entered my body for reconstruction, or removal, now these scars have become the points of entry into my past, into those places where, as a child, I was unable to go safely. In this way my scars do not exist only on my skin, but remain inscribed on the cortex of my brain, the section where memory is stored.”
