Wednesday 18 March 3-5pm Rethinking Disability organizes in collaboration with the Dutch Coalition on Disability and Development, Leiden University College (LUC) and Disability Studies in the Netherlands an interdisciplinary, public seminar with anthropologist Tyler Zoanni: 'Appearances of Disability'.
Zoanni works from an anthropological perspective on (cognitive) disability in Uganda. After the presentation there will be a response of Alice Schippers, director and researcher Disability Studies in The Netherlands.
In the evening a public film screening The Best en Most Beautiful Things will be held (see below), that can be well combined with the seminar.

About the Screening: BEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL THINGS is a celebration of outcasts everywhere, following a precocious young blind woman who disappears into quirky obsessions and isolation. With humor and bold curiosity, she chases love and freedom in the most unexpected of places: a provocative fringe community.

Rethinking Disability in collaboration with the Dutch Coalition on Disability and Development and Disability Studies in the Netherlands
Tyler Zoanni, postdoctoral researcher in anthropology (Ethnologie Afrikas) at the University of Bayreuth. He is currently writing a book about personhood and the lives and worlds of people with cognitive disabilities in Uganda. He also wrote the article 'Appearances of Disability and Christianity in Uganda'.

Cathy Kudlick, Director, Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability at San Francisco State University. She is also director of the Superfest Disability Film Festival, made possible through the efforts of The Longmore Institute on Disability.
